Alejandro Sanz

Alejandro was pinched from under the noses of Chertsey Town and joined Oatlands FC at the beginning of 2003/2004. His arrival at the club has bought about both leadership and experience to the squad. Sanz is a player that leads by example on the pitch, highly skilful and creative, but with dogged determination, very often when times are tough and OFC are up against the wall Alejandro can be found mucking in to desperately defend the OFC goal. Alejandro is certainly not the sort of player that defenders like to play against as he is cocky on the ball and intimidating defenders when he wants the ball. If you want to find Mr Sanz, take your bag of pound coins to the Woburn Arms on a Friday night and join him in a game of poker or wait in Wheatash Road, Chertsey on a Sunday night when he will probably cycle past you with his after dinner cheeseburger.

Tell us a bit about yourself, Alejandro is a funny name for a cockney geezer

Well I was born to Spanish parents, Antonio and Consuelo; I have an older brother called Tony and a wonderful girlfriend, Vanessa. I work as a carpenter and drive a clapped out Volkswagen Golf. I enjoy cooking, eating Spanish Cuisine, boys nights out and Sunday roasts. I especially enjoy eating classic English cuisine such as half pound burgers and curry. As for the cockney accent, that comes from growing up in the mean streets of Sunbury.

One fascinating fact that everyone needs to know?

Every great Spanish player including me wears a gold chain and cross which they are given by their parents, it helps me score goals.

Another fascinating fact is that I can eat 5 Big Macs in under a minute.

I heard you're a Chippy by trade, what's the key to good batter?

Don't know, that's a silly question! But i do like vinegar on my chips!!

I hear you're a bit superstitious, care to tell us about that?

Well, there's the chain of love of course but also I never play without the number 10 shirt. As a kid I used to watch Maradona and videos of Pele and I have always associated the number 10 with the greatest players. I always wanted to wear it and now its kind of stuck with me and I am not the same player without it – so leave it alone Beckram!!

Who is your footballing idol and why?

After watching the Mexico 86 World Cup when I was 11 years old, I really began to discover what football was all about, I was a superb tournament with some of the greatest players of our time such as Butragueno, Lineker and Platini, but one player really stood out for me and still does to this day. He had everything; pace, vision, touch, balance and especially skill. Back in the day I had the same hair cut as the man – his name; Diego Maradona.

If we went back to Casa Sanz and opened your CD player, what would we find?

Well T-Bone I actually have quite a wide and varied mixture of music at Casa Sanz. My collection ranges from the Beatles, Elvis and the Stones to the Stone Roses, Coldplay and Oasis. I also keep a Smooth Grooves CD for Vanessa and played those special evenings in – lucky cow!

Greatest moment in an OFC shirt?

Every moment in an OFC shirt is great and its hard to pick one moment that has really stood out but generally it when I have scored another great goal and celebrating with the team.

They called Emilio Butragueno "El Buitre" (the vulture) what would be your Spanish nickname and why?

Tough question T-Bone, it would probably have to be “El Gordo” (translated as “the fat one”) probably because I eat too much.
