Chris
Harper |
|
|
A
versatile defender who not only good at winning those vital tackles
and headers, but once the ball is at his feet he can also play a pretty
tidy game of football. Chris is possibly the "father figure" among the team and is a man renowned for having a face like thunder
when things are not going to absolute perfection. Chris is also a
bit of a naturist at heart, as demonstrated by the fact that he likes
to spend ages marching round the dressing room naked and complaining
about the game. As you will see from the amount of clubs he has played
for Chris is definitely the team journey man. |

My
footballing past is long and varied. I started playing as an under
eight and have not stopped playing since. Over 22 years and still
going!!
I actually started as a right winger as much to everyone's surprise
I was very very quick in my day. I represented Luton at 100m and 200m
when I was 14 & 15 and was doing the hundred is just over 12 seconds
then. I was not a bad goal scorer either but eventually made my way
back to playing fullback or sweeper. Whilst the legs & lungs do
not carry me as well I still think I have the ability to play pretty
much anywhere. Many of you would say otherwise I guess!
My youth football was fairly successful being part of a county cup
winner side in Hertfordshire, a few league titles and cups, before
the side was disbanded when I was about 15 after, which I went on
to play for a less successful side.
After school I went to Uni and played with some of the best footballers
I have ever played with. How some of these lads never made it as pro's
god only knows? For those of you who know my best man Rob - sadly
he was not one of them, contrary to what he may tell you! I have played
a fairly decent level since, but few sides would have beaten the Uni
side and I think the Gaffer understands what I am on about.
To be honest though I do not think that many of them are playing any
more which is a real shame. It was at Uni I played some of my football
in goal when we were short a scenario you may see me repeating in
the near future.
After Uni, with the exception of the odd side - saw the 'journey man
years'. A number of clubs - no trophies, a variety of positions and
then I saw the light and I came out of the footballing wilderness
for OFC. |

PLEASE
TELL US ONE FASCINATING FACT ABOUT YOURSELF THAT EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW?
|
|

Apart
from the fact I am actually really laid back!
I have a mind like sponge for any information which serves no purpose
in life. Trivia, sport, rubbish really etc. |

WHAT
REALLY WINDS YOU UP CHRIS? (APART FROM EVERYTHING) |
|
|
Are
you seriously asking me that question - do you not know me!
Contrary
to everyone's opinion, I am actually pretty laid back (honest). The
main exception is football! Other stuff that winds me up include
people who give up to easily (at anything), football , Chavs, football,
people who do not pay their way, football, people who have no respect
for others around them, football, Australians and not forgetting
FOOTBALL .

YOU
RECENTLY GOT ENGAGED AND MARRIED, HOW DID THAT COME ABOUT? |
|
|
What
do you want to know? - I asked and to my suprise.... she said yes!
If you are trying to embarrass me by getting me to tell the whole
story I have no problems with that! The birds who read this will love
it anyway!
Lou thought we were going to dinner in London with some mates of mine
(and subsequently found out she did not want to go). Unbeknown to
her I had planned a trip to 'gay' Paris via Eurostar (just for the
night - no hotel nothing - very rock and roll). W e got to Waterloo
and jumped on Eurostar. Got there and went to the Eiffel Tower where
I proposed and presented 'The Rock' (not the wrestler) and Lou said
yes. We then partied till dawn and jumped back on the Eurostar ...............a
smug engaged couple. |

I
HEARD THAT YOU LOVE YOUR ELVIS MR HARPS, TOP 3 TRACKS? |
|
|
An
impossible and unfair question for any Elvis fan. There are so many
great songs nearly everyone is a classic but there are a few bad ones
in there!
His early stuff - the real rock n roll stuff, is superb. There's album
stuff which hardly anyone who isn't an Elvis fan would have heard
of. At the moment I am more a into his later stuff (the jump suit
era - late 60s and 70s) and recently purchased some Live albums which
just go to prove he is the great performer, even better than Honey
Boy Steve!
But if you are pinning me down to an answer - my faves (not necessarily
the top 3) are:
1.
Suspicious Minds
2. In the Ghetto
3. American Trilogy

IF
WE WENT BACK TO HARPER MANSIONS AND OPENED YOUR CD PLAYER WHAT WOULD
WE FIND? |

Either
my newly purchased Elvis live stuff, some disco or chilled out dance! |

IDEAL
WOMAN? (THAT ISN'T YOUR SIGNIFICANT OTHER) |
|
|
Is
the wife going to be reading this? Well obviously it is Lou but otherwise
I dunno it would have to be a cross of a few...
1. Charlize Theron for looks and class.
2. A bird whose dad owns a brewery with an attached golf course.
3. Abi Titmus / Jordan or Aguilera for the muck factor.
Hang on just thought of the ideal woman - Jessica Rabbit!

FINALLY
CHRIS, WHO ARE YOUR FOOTBALLING IDOLS? |
|
|
I
have a few but one that stands out is...
Mick Harford - still, as far as I am concerned the greatest target
man centre forward of the 80's & 90s. I admit there is a bit of
bias as he was a Luton player, but he was someone who should have
played for England more than his two caps. Hard as nails, good on
the floor and in the air. Not sure how sides would cope with that
type of player now, but who cares the man is a footballing icon!!
Others I would like to mention are Ricky Hill - the great afro ever
to play for England, Les Sealy - RIP and Mal Donaghy a superb defender
and one of the nicest guys I have ever met. Last but by no means least
Kenny Dalgliesh, Paul Gascoigne, Robin Friday, Paul Elliott and Tony
Adams.
