Sonny Henderson |
| |
|
Sonny joined OFC at the beginning of the 2007/2008 season and has been one of OFC's most vital players ever since. Along with Tim Furnival, Sonny is probably our first choice centre back and where Tim is more of an enforcer, Sonny is usually the guy who clears up behind and sweeps up anything loose. Sonny's main assets are his pace and ability to read the game, this means that very often Sonny is in the right place and at the right time and many difficult situations are prevented before they develop into goal scoring chances for the opposition. Unfortunately Sonny has never scored for Oatlands, but his contribution in preventing them is absolutely invaluable. Despite being primarily defensive in nature, every now and then you'll see Sonny bursting forth from the defence with the ball at his feet in a bid set off another OFC attack. Sonny is never away from a football pitch for long, but below we are get to peek through the keyhole and find out a bit more about Mr Henderson's life, opinions on rail travel and superhero potential. |

Tell
us a bit about yourself Sonny... |
| |
|
Well I've lived in Surrey all my life. I’ve done a ski season in France, and been travelling round South East Asia (which I say in a vain attempt to make me sound interesting as now I have a real job, in IT). I got into IT about a year ago with the NHS, and now I work for Burberry

Tell us a fascinating fact about yourself |
| |
|
Hmmm.... the only half interesting thing I can think of that people might not know, is that I have my tongue pierced

How did you come to join the Mighty OFC then? |
| |
|
I originally started playing football when i was 10, and had a brief fling with rugby during secondary school, but after leaving 6th form I found the path to enlightenment with 5-a-side. Then I went travelling round South East Asia, and when I arrived back I started playing for the Mighty OFC.

Who's your football idol and which players do you compare yourself to? |
| |
|
Paolo Maldini, by a mile. He's arguably the best defender the world has ever seen, and he is still going strong with one of the best teams in the world. I can only dream of making 1000 plus appearances in football. I'm a long way off at the moment.
I don't think there is a player out there like me. I would like to say someone great, but I cannot think of anyone quite so "special".

If you were a superhero what would be your name and what would be your superpower? |
| |
|
Super hero? Not much point asking really. My name would be “The Italian Stallion”, and my superpower would be the ability to attract women with my boyish good looks, and irresistible charm. But that's more a description of me now. |

|
| |
Who's the most difficult team you faced since joining Oatlands? |
| |
|
Abbey Rangers, and it's not due to showing any sort of respect for my old club. All I can say is, I will never play with a hangover again in my life. It took a day and a bit to fully recover. (well, never say never) |

|
|
| |
Where would we find you when you're not wearing an Oatlands FC shirt? |
| |
|
Either working up in London or out having a few drinks down the pub, any pub. The rest of the time it's pure football. 4 times a week, if not more. |

Greatest moment in an OFC shirt? |
| |
|
The header off the line against Spelthorne FC in the Semi-Final of the League Cup. Loved saving the goal, but somehow managed to fall backwards into the net and cut my hand up. It was worth it though. |

Adverts on TV, or the radio for that matter.
The price of train tickets, although I'm sure no one that uses the train is happy about that.
People who are picky about what they eat. I'll let them off if it's an allergy that will kill them, but everyone else has no excuse. Eat what you’re given and be happy with it! |
